DUTIES

Design electrical power distribution systems for Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants by using knowledge of electrical fundamentals, advanced power engineering and power systems. Develop Preliminary Design Reports (PDR) outlining the project scope, existing conditions at the plant, modifications to be made to the existing system and new work to be done. Develop design plans, including one-line diagrams showing power flow to the equipment in the field, interface diagrams showing the control signals, and control schematics showing the control logic, as a part of the Construction documents. Calculate wire sizes, voltage drop, and motor starting using software tools. Size and select backup generator, using generator sizing software. Understand the plant processes and follow the Mechanical drawings and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) to provide power to the field equipment and instruments. Use knowledge of the National Electric Code (NEC) to develop design plans, including one-line diagrams, interface diagrams, plan views, and control schematics as a part of Contract documents. Develop design specifications & Opinion of Probable Construction Cost (OPCC) to give an estimate of the cost involved for the work to be done. Review construction administration documents, submittals, and Request for Information (RFI) received from the Contractor to confirm conformance with design plans and specifications. Conduct site walk-throughs to review the Contractor work.

REQUIREMENTS

Requires a Master’s degree, or foreign equivalent degree in Electronic Engineering or Electrical Engineering and two years of experience in the job offered or two years of experience: Designing electrical power distribution systems for Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants by using knowledge of electrical fundamentals, advanced power engineering, and power systems; Developing design plans, including one-line diagrams showing power flow to the equipment in the field, interface diagrams showing the control signals and control schematics showing the control logic, as a part of the Construction documents; Using knowledge of National Electric Code (NEC) to develop design plans, including one-line diagrams, interface diagrams, plan views and control schematics as a part of Contract documents; and Developing Preliminary Design Reports (PDR) outlining the project scope, existing conditions at the plant, modifications to be made to the existing system, and new work to be done.
